Book Review : The Midnight Library - The Catch

1) Title of book : The Midnight Library - The Catch
Author : Nick Shadow

2) Plot for first story of the book out of 3 stories:

Mr Fenton, a teacher of a class, brought his class on a trip to the Marine Centre at Garner Bay. Adam Walker and David Burns are friends which like to canoe very much. After they reach their destination, Mr Fenton arranged for an instructor to give them all a lecture on safety and on basic skills and techniques. But Adam Walker and David Burns have something up to their sleeves, they decided to skip the lecture and check out the canoes. When they arrived, they swiped life-jackets and protective waterproofs from an open shed by the waterside. Then they started canning in the outer sea. After a few hours or more, they founded themselves surrounded by thick fogs. They were lost! And the story continued.


3) What I have learnt or notice from the writer of the book about characterisations.

a) Main characters : Adam Walker and David Burns

b) Personality:

Adam Walker : Playful, always don't think of the consequence.
David Burns : Playful, always regards following Adam when he wanted to do something mischievous.

c) How did the personalities play out in the story to make the story more alive and interesting?

To be honest, i don't think the story is very interesting only when they were having fun playing in the water while canning but you will be freak out after you read the ending......

d) What did you learn from this author about building interesting characters?

This author thinks of stories that will freak out the reader.

4) Style of writing:

a)The writer likes to use dash ( "-" ) .

Example:

• His only option was to get out of his own canoe and into the water- maybe then he could help his friend.

b) The writer always write said, etc and put ( "," ) and followed with an action.

Example :

• " OK," Mr Fenton said, gesturing towards the long, low glass and steel building of the Marine Centre.

5) Recommendation:

If you want to collect interesting phrases be my guest and borrow this book from the library.
But you don't wish to be freak out by those scary scene please don't read it.
